Our Analysts
Justin A. Colledge, Managing Director, worked for Sanford C. Bernstein for four years as an Associate Research Analyst – Enterprise Hardware and European Telecom before joining us in 2006. Prior to that, he was with McKinsey & Company and Nortel Networks. Justin is a 1994 graduate of Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario with a Bachelor’s in Commerce. He received his MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 1997. He is responsible for communications service and equipment, data storage, electric utilities, media, internet retail, and semiconductor equipment.
Robert F. Coviello, President & Chief Executive Officer, worked for nine years as an analyst with U.S. and Foreign Securities before joining John W. Bristol & Co. in 1983. Prior to that he was an analyst with Citibank and Lazard Frères. Bob is a 1967 graduate of Columbia College and also received his MBA from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business in 1968. Bob coordinates the research effort. He also has analytical responsibilities in the areas of business services, fixed income, healthcare, and transportation services.
James A. Engle, Managing Director, worked for DLJ Asset Management for seventeen years, the last twelve as Chief Investment Officer before joining John W. Bristol & Co. in 2000. Jim is a 1981 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Arizona. He received an MBA with distinction from The Wharton School and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is responsible for research coverage of education, information processing, insurance and financial services companies, machinery industries, metals, and newspapers.
Robert W. Herz, Managing Director, worked at 1838 Investment Advisors for fourteen years as a Managing Director before joining John W. Bristol & Co. in 2003. Prior to that, he was a senior internal auditor at Dillon, Read & Co., and senior accountant at Seidman and Seidman. Rob is a graduate of Hofstra University. He received his MBA from the University of Chicago and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is responsible for research coverage of banks, broker dealers, electrical equipment, money management, Real Estate Investment Trusts, and retail trade.
Timothy W. Hurckes, Managing Director, was with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette as a Vice President and Analyst for five years before joining John W. Bristol & Co. in 1989. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and received recognition as an Institutional Investor All Star Analyst. Tim is a graduate of the Wharton School and received an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1984. Tim has analytical responsibilities in the areas of aerospace, airlines, autos, builders, building materials, fixed income, hotels and resorts, oil and natural gas, specialty retailing, and steel.
Richard E. Lyall, Managing Director, worked for nine years as principal and portfolio manager/analyst at McCowan Associates before joining John W. Bristol & Co. in 1993. Rick was valedictorian at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1979 and received his MBA from Cornell University with honors, in 1984. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is Chairman of the Portfolio Committee, Massachusetts Maritime Academy Foundation. Rick has analytical responsibilities in the areas of data networking equipment, fixed income, connectors, cruise lines, leisure products, medical devices, personal care and household products, rails, restaurants, and shipping.
Kevin B. McAuley, Managing Director, was with First Manhattan Co. as Managing Director, Senior Research Analyst for three years before joining John W. Bristol & Co. in 2002. Prior to that, he was a research analyst at Schroder & Company and at Salomon Smith Barney. Kevin is a 1992 graduate of Fordham University and received his master’s degree from New York University in 1995. Kevin has analytical responsibilities in the areas of biotechnology, chemicals, coal, engineering and construction, food manufacturing and distribution, healthcare equipment and services, and pharmaceuticals.
Charles H. Mott, Managing Director, was formerly Chairman of Baker, Weeks & Company. He was also Director of Research from 1960 to 1976. Baker, Weeks was acquired in September 1976 by Reynolds Securities, which later merged with Dean Witter. He served as Executive Vice President of both firms before joining John W. Bristol & Co. in June 1978. A 1953 graduate of Williams College, he attended New York University Graduate School of Business Administration and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is a trustee of the American Museum of Natural History and a trustee emeritus of Williams College, a director of Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth, and a member of the Finance Committee of the Rockefeller Family Fund. Charlie coordinates investment policy and fixed income.
Raymond E. Scanlan, Managing Director, worked for Citigroup Asset Management for six years as a Director – Senior Equity Analyst, Technology, before joining us in 2004. Prior to that, he was with Marakon Associates, the European Community Commission, and McKinsey & Company. Ray is a 1989 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Economics from the Wharton School and a BAS in Computer Science from the Moore School of Engineering. He received an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 1995. He is responsible for alternative energy, design automation, electronics contract manufacturing, freight forwarding, health information, internet services, managed care, oilfield services, payment processing, software, forest products, and water.
William D. Washychyn, Managing Director, was with the United States Steel and Carnegie Pension Fund for ten years before joining John W. Bristol & Co. in 1982. Prior to that he was an analyst at Citibank. Bill graduated in 1967 Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from Lehigh University. He received an MBA from the University of Michigan in December 1968 and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Bill helps coordinate the research effort. he also has analytical responsibilities in the areas of beverages, distribution services, fixed income, construction materials, specialty retailing, and tobacco.
Michael Afshar, Research Associate, is a 2006 graduate of the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College, and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from American University. Michael worked at Babson College Fund as a Portfolio Manager (Healthcare Sector); at RaboBank International as a Summer Associate, Capital Markets Trading Desk; and at International Fund Services (a State Street company) as an Associate, Operations/Risk Management.
Harvey Lei, Research Associate, is a 2008 graduate of the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University, with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Accounting, with Minors in Computer Science and Mathematics. Harvey worked at Merrill Lynch, New York, as a Summer Analyst; Berkery, Noyes & Co., LLC, New York as an Investment Banking Intern; and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as a Summer Analyst – Markets Division. |
